Alhamdulillah, lawful public action leads to an important regulatory outcome
The Nazriya Pakistan Movement expresses its gratitude to Almighty Allah that, following widespread public concern over the broadcast of Safar-e-Ishq on Geo News, the relevant regulatory authorities have taken action. The programme, which included a bodily depiction of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), generated serious concern among a large number of Pakistanis.
Immediately after the broadcast, the Nazriya Pakistan Movement, in collaboration with The Revivalists, announced that the matter would be pursued strictly through constitutional and legal means. Consultations were held throughout the country with respected religious scholars, legal experts and concerned citizens to identify the appropriate legal avenues available under Pakistani law. We are grateful to every scholar, lawyer and member of the public who contributed their knowledge, guidance and support during this process.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to the countless Pakistanis who exercised their constitutional right to express their concerns peacefully and responsibly. Their lawful engagement demonstrated that matters affecting deeply held religious sentiments can and should be addressed through legal institutions and public participation.
The regulatory action taken in this matter reinforces the importance of compliance with Pakistan’s laws and media regulations. We hope that all broadcasters and digital content producers will continue to exercise due care and responsibility when producing or disseminating material relating to religious subjects.
The Nazriya Pakistan Movement will continue to monitor developments in this matter and, where necessary, will engage with the relevant authorities through lawful and constitutional channels. Our objective is not confrontation but the consistent application of the law, equal accountability, and respect for the legal framework governing media content in Pakistan.
We remain committed to pursuing all future concerns through peaceful, lawful and constitutional means and will continue to keep the public informed of any significant developments.
